In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), seized a huge consignment of Yaba tablets worth approximately Rs 8 crore from Mungiakami area under Khowai district of Tripura on Friday.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the security forces intercepted a Mahindra pick-up vehicle bearing registration number TR05G1855 during the operation. Upon searching the vehicle, the team recovered around one lakh Yaba tablets.

One person, identified as Kauchar Hussain (28), a resident of Jatan Bari in Gomati district, was apprehended in connection with the seizure.

The recovered contraband along with the accused was handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further investigation and necessary legal proceedings.

Officials said the successful operation reflects the continued commitment of the Assam Rifles and DRI in combating drug trafficking and curbing the growing menace of narcotics in the region.
