Assault to a woman, villagers’ gheraoed highway, police station demanding arrest of accused cop

A large group of villagers on Wednesday blockade the national highway at Bishalgarh and has also gheraoed the local police station demanding arrest one police constable and his wife for thrashing severally one his neighbour lady.
Sources said that family members and other villagers of a woman who was assaulted by a neighbour police constable Chhabbir Hussain alias Litan Majumder and his wife, gheraoed the Bishalgarh police station of Sepahijala district on Wednesday afternoon and has also blockaded Agartala-Sabroom national highway demanding the arrest of the accused persons.
Sources said that on Tuesday, after a family dispute, police constable Chhabbir Hussain and his wife from Ghaniamara Panchayat Tilla area under the same police station jointly beat up their neighbour, housewife Rozina Akter, with sticks after throwing her to the ground. The injured woman was initially taken to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital and later referred to Agartala GBP Hospital.
Meanwhile, after a complaint registered by the family members of the victim house wife, the Bishalgarh police station had detained Chhabbir Hussain , but released on bail on Tuesday night.
Both parties filed cases against each other at Bishalgarh police station.
While on Wednesday villagers learned that accused Chhabbir Hussain was released on bail, the injured woman and her family members came from GBP Hospital and staged a demonstration in front of the main gate of Bishalgarh police station and gathered at the police station. They alleged that the police had released Chhabbir Hussain in exchange for a large bribe.
Later, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bishalgarh police station, Sanjit Sen arrived at the scene and spoke with the victim's family members and assured all agitated villagers that law will take its own course and the guilty person will not be spared.
Meanwhile, injured Rozina Akter during agitation fainted and became seriously ill and she was again shifted to a local hospital by firefighters.
