Assembly of Journalists condemn FIR against an editor by former ATTF rebel and Motha MLA
Assembly of Journalists (AOJ), a collective, largest organization of journalists and media workers of Tripura strongly condemned FIR against state's leading television channel Headlines Tripura's editor, Pranab Sarkar by former ATTF rebel leader and incumbent Tipra-Motha party (TMP) MLA Ranjit Debbarma.
AoJ through a press statement said that organization’s General Secretary, Sanit Debroy, has strongly condemned this incident. The AOJ leadership suspects that there may be a deep conspiracy behind Ranjit Debbarma’s decision to file a false case against Pranab Sarkar.
The FIR against Sarkar has also sparked concern within the Assembly of Journalists (AOJ).
It may be recalled here that several newspapers and other media organisations and social media platforms have already reported on Ranjit Debbarma’s Bangladesh birth certificate and photo identity card used for voting, yet he has filed a case only against Pranab Sarkar. The AOJ considers this action by Ranjit Debbarma to be highly suspicious and the organization has also questioned how the state police could register a case against a journalist-editor in such circumstances.
AoJ’s general secretary Sanit Debroy and all members of the organisation have expressed solidarity with Pranab Sarkar on this issue and have declared that, if necessary, AoJ is prepared to launch a larger state-wide movement in support, said the statement issued by member of AoJ, Abhijit Ghosh.
