BSF resumes work on retaining wall near Muhurighat LCS
The work on Single Row Fence (SRF) in the Muhurighat area of Belonia under South Tripura district is already complete. Due to heavy rainfall, some erosion was noticed near the base of the fence for which a retaining wall was being constructed by the construction agency.
BSF sources said that when work on the retaining wall was started, BGB objected to it and a company commander level flag meeting was also held. But the issue was resolved immediately as IG of BSF Tripura Frontier; Patel Piyush Purushottam Das spoke with the Regional Commander of BGB and clarified the issue. BGB has subsequently agreed to the work and the construction work on the retaining wall has already resumed.
A robust mechanism is in place for resolving all such issues between the two border guarding forces at all levels, said BSF through a press statement.
Earlier, on July 5th in an unauthorized and illegal objection by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) for erection of single line barbed wire fencing at the bordering areas of Muhurighat land custom station (LCS) stopped.
The jawans of BGB had also threatened the Indian labourers working to stop the construction of single line barbed wire fencing, which has escalated tension among two forces. They also issued a warning that if the construction work is not stopped, then they will start firing, despite ongoing construction work going inside 150 yards of Indian territory.
After authorities of BSF along with their counterpart in Bangladesh organized a flag meeting at the zero point of Muhurighat, the hours-long meeting yielded zero output and both BSF and BGB have decided to stop the construction works for next two days till the final decisions from top officials of both nations.
On Sunday again resumed the construction works after IG-BSF Patel Piyush Purushottam Das spoke with the Regional Commander of BGB and clarified the issue.
