Acclaimed composer and violin maestro Debojyoti Mishra was conferred the inaugural ‘Banglar Sona’ honour by Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers at a special event held at Rabindra Sadan in Kolkata on Sunday. The honour marks the launch of a new initiative by the jewellery brand to recognise outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to Bengal's cultural and social landscape.
The award was presented during ‘Robi'r Aloye Satyajit’, a musical production by Debojyoti Mishra presented by Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers. The programme celebrated three decades of Mishra’s remarkable musical journey and explored the influence of Rabindranath Tagore’s works on the cinema of Satyajit Ray.
The event featured performances by renowned artistes, including Srikanta Acharya, Jayati Chakraborty, Upal Sengupta, Saheb Chatterjee, Anwesha Datta Gupta and Srinanda Shankar, making it a memorable tribute to Bengal’s rich musical heritage.
The ‘Banglar Sona’ honour was presented at the opening of the programme by Arpita Saha, Director of Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers, along with celebrated singers Srikanta Acharya and Jayati Chakraborty.
Widely regarded as one of India’s finest musicians, Debojyoti Mishra is known for his mastery of the violin and several other musical instruments. He has earned widespread acclaim for his distinctive style and has composed memorable scores for numerous Bengali and Hindi films, as well as world music projects.
Expressing his gratitude after receiving the honour, Mishra said, “I feel truly gratified to receive the ‘Banglar Sona’ honour and I thank Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers for this thoughtful gesture. I see it as a symbolic reflection of the love and appreciation I have received from people.”
Congratulating Mishra, singer Srikanta Acharya said he was delighted to be part of the occasion, describing the composer as a deserving recipient of the recognition.
Jayati Chakraborty also praised the initiative, saying the ‘Banglar Sona’ honour is a commendable effort to celebrate excellence and recognize individuals who have enriched Bengal through their contributions.
