Dialogue on effective implementation of child specific legislations concluded at NLU, Tripura

National Law University, Tripura in partnership with UNICEF organized “State Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Effective Implementation of Child Specific Legislations” on January 10, 2024 at the Tripura Judicial Academy Auditorium.
The event witnessed august gathering from distinguished officials of South and Dhalai Tripura districts. The program commenced with a welcome address delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor of NLU Tripura. His address set the stage for a day of insightful discussions and strategic planning. One of the prominent speakers, Mr. Saju Vaheed A, District Magistrate and Collector, Dhalai delivered the keynote address emphasizing the urgent need for effective implementation of child-specific legislations.
He highlighted the gaps in current practices and proposed solutions to enhance enforcement. Dr. Debasree Debnath, Assistant Professor, NLU, Tripura and Centre Director, Centre for Women and Child Rights (CWCR) presented the statistical data on the situation of child marriage in Dhalai and South Tripura. She explained that, school dropout is a major reason for child marriage. Dr. Pritam Debbarma, District Family Welfare Officer of Dhalai, Mr. Prasenjit Sinha, Protection Officer of DCPU/DISE in South Tripura, Advocate. Abhisubhra Paul, member of the JJB Committee in South Tripura, Mr. Satyajit Manik, District Coordinator of Inclusive Education in South Tripura, and Ms. Joystna Akhtar, a Child Marriage Rescuer, South Tripura shared their experiences while working against such evil practice in the society. The event witnessed an interactive question-and-answer session that provided a platform for in-depth dialogue and the exchange of ideas, ensuring that diverse perspectives were heard and considered.
