Finance Minister to table Budget 2026–27 with major announcements
Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy will table the state Budget for the financial year 2026–27 in the Tripura Assembly on Monday noon, the second day of the ongoing Budget session.
Singha Roy will present the third Budget of the BJP-led government in its second term. The Budget session of the Assembly will continue till March 25.
According to the schedule, the Finance Minister will present the Budget after the Question Hour at 12 noon. The Budget is expected to include several major announcements for the people of the state.
Sources said the Budget may provide higher allocation for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) as elections to the 30-member tribal autonomous body are likely to be held in April this year.
The Budget session began on Friday with the opening address by Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu.
The detailed schedule and business of the session were finalized at a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) held at the Assembly complex. On the opening day, the Governor delivered his address, which was later laid on the table of the House by the Assembly Secretary.
Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy also tabled the Supplementary Budget for the financial year 2025–26 in the House. The Assembly also observed an obituary reference in memory of former Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen on the first day of the session.
It may be recalled that after the BAC meeting held on March 6, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath had said that the state government would introduce three Bills in the Assembly to establish three new universities — Tripura Women’s University, Tripura University of Health Sciences, and Tripura Technical University.
Sources further said that the formal process for electing a new Speaker of the Assembly is scheduled to be held on March 18.
