Five miscreants arrested so far in Angel Chakma murder case: Chief Minister
In Dehradun, police have so far arrested five individuals in connection with the murder of Tripura student Angel Chakma and among those have been arrested, three are adults and two are minors. The prime accused is still absconding, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him, said Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.
Replying to queries of opposition MLA on the six day of the budget session of Tripura Assembly on Friday, Chief Minister said that a reward of Rs 25,000 has been announced for information leading to the arrest of the main accused. Additionally, the Uttarakhand state police headquarters has declared a reward of Rs 1 lakh for providing credible information about his whereabouts.
The Chief Minister stated that further legal procedures and search operations are actively underway. Strict legal steps, including lookout notices and other enforcement measures, have been initiated. The case hearing is currently in progress in court.
Describing the incident as extremely tragic and sensitive, the Chief Minister said he has been closely monitoring the situation since the day it occurred. He mentioned that he had spoken with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on December 29, 2025 regarding the matter. In further communication, assurances were given that strict action would be taken against all those involved.
The Chief Minister also noted that on December 30, cabinet member Santana Chakma and Tipra Motha leaders visited Angel Chakma’s residence to offer condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the state government. Financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh from the Tripura government and a cheque of Rs 4,12,500 from the Uttarakhand government were handed over to the victim’s family.
He further added that on January 14, he personally visited Angel Chakma’s home in Nandan Nagar area of Agartala to meet the grieving family members. Minister Santana Chakma was also present during the last rites and condolence meeting of Angel Chakma.
