Four young tribal women arrested with huge quantity of Ganja at Agartala Railway station
In a major success in its ongoing anti-drug operations, the Government Railway Police (GRP), in coordination with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), arrested four young tribal women and seized a huge quantity of dry ganja from Agartala Railway Station on Thursday.
According to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the GRP station at Agartala Railway Station, the joint GRP–RPF team was conducting routine security checks across all platforms when they noticed the suspicious movement of four women at Platform No. 1. The women were reportedly waiting to board a long-distance train.
Acting on suspicion, the security personnel searched their bags and personal belongings and recovered a total of 46.590 kilograms of dry ganja, estimated to be worth around Rs 15 lakh in the illicit market.
The arrested women have been identified as Jeshmin Debbarma (26) of Karbook, Abi Debbarma (21) of Champaknagar, Rani Debbarma (39) of Mandwai, and Eva Debbarma (19) of Mandwai, all from West Tripura district. The OC stated that the accused belong to well-established families and that drug smugglers are increasingly using young women to transport contraband in an attempt to evade security checks.
Police said all four women will be produced before a local court under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, with a plea for police remand to gather further details about the drug trafficking network involved.
