Huge quantity of dry Ganja seized in three separate operations; six drug peddlers arrested
In a major crackdown on narcotics, Tripura Police on Thursday conducted three separate operations across the state, seizing large quantities of dry ganja (cannabis) and arresting six alleged drug peddlers.
According to police sources, personnel from East Agartala Police Station, acting on specific intelligence inputs, intercepted an e-rickshaw at College Tilla area. Two large bags containing dry ganja were recovered before the contraband could be transported to Jogendranagar Railway Station. Two alleged peddlers were detained in connection with the seizure.
Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station, Subrata Debnath, identified the arrested individuals as Pradip Das of Bhati Abhoynagar and Ashish Namo of 79-Tilla. Police said the duo was involved in transporting contraband and frequently delivered consignments at Jogendranagar Railway Station for onward smuggling to Bihar.
During the operation, police seized a total of 18 kilograms of dry ganja. The accused were produced before a local court after a specific case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police sought a three-day remand for further interrogation.
In another operation, Sonamura Police Station under Sepahijala district arrested three alleged drug smugglers, including a woman, and seized 790 kilograms of dry ganja from their possession. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth several crores of rupees in the illegal market.
In the third operation, personnel from Jatrapur Police Station in Sepahijala district conducted a raid at Barkhala village. During the raid, police detained a Bolero vehicle (TR 01 D 3432). Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered four plastic drums loaded with ganja.
Police seized a total of 138 kilograms of ganja along with the vehicle. The accused, identified as Ripan Miah (18) of Naldepa village under the same police station, was arrested on the spot. A specific NDPS case has been registered against him.
Police sources stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain the wider network involved in the smuggling operations.
