In a tragic incident an elderly jhum (shifting) cultivator over fifty dies from electrocution in the early morning of Monday.

The incident took place in the Chhindrai Para area of Boramura Hills under Teliamura police station of Khowai district. A shadow of grief has spread across the entire area due to death of Jhum cultivator.

Sources said that during the early hours, a Nor'wester storm uprooted trees and parts of houses to in several places, leading to power outages. The same happened in that area of Barmura hills. In the morning, due to the absence of electricity at home, the Jhum cultivator, identified as Abhirat Rupini went near the transformer in front of the house to fix the power himself. According to the family, he was electrocuted in the process and died on the spot.

Hearing the hue and cry from the area, family members rushed to the spot, and the firefighters was informed. The victim, jhum cultivator Abhirat Rupini, was taken to the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family. His death has cast a pall of sorrow over the entire locality.
