In another major success against drug trafficking in Tripura, a joint team of law enforcement agencies seized a huge quantity of dry Cannabis (Ganja) and arrested one person during a late-night operation at Surendranagar under Sidhai police station of West Tripura district.
The special operation was carried out on Wednesday midnight by a joint team led by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Agartala, with the assistance of the Border Security Force (BSF), Tripura State Rifles (TSR), and police personnel from Sidhai police station.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the joint team conducted a surprise search at a house in Surendranagar, where they recovered a large quantity of dry Ganja stored in 12 drums.
Following the raid, all 12 drums containing the contraband were seized and brought to Sidhai police station for further legal proceedings.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) , Mohanpur, Ashish Dasgupta said the total quantity of the seized dry Ganja was approximately 570 kilograms.
One suspected drug smuggler was arrested from the spot for his alleged involvement in the drug trafficking network. However, police have withheld the identity of the accused as the investigation is at a crucial stage.
Police said efforts are underway to trace the kingpins and uncover the entire network behind the illegal narcotics trade. Further investigation is in progress.
