A large-sized Monocled Cobra was rescued from the residence of Nani Dutta under Kathalia Panchayat in Sepahijala district, triggering curiosity and excitement among local residents.
The snake was rescued from the living houses of Nani Dutta by members of the Animal Aid Alliance Welfare Society. Snake rescuers Asim Majumder and Lokai Dey, from Kathalia, jointly carried out the rescue operation.
According to the rescuers, the snake was the largest Monocled Cobra they had rescued so far. The Monocled Cobra is a highly venomous species and is commonly found in various parts of the region.
The two rescuers have been voluntarily working to protect snakes and maintain ecological balance. They have reportedly rescued around 300 snakes from residential areas to date and released them safely into suitable forest habitats.
Following the rescue, the large cobra was released into the Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary with the assistance of Jatrapur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Parthanath Bhowmik and Sub-Inspector(SI) Prasenjit Debnath. The police officers helped transport the rescuers and the snake in their official vehicle before releasing it in the sanctuary.
The rescue operation drew a large gathering of curious residents, creating considerable excitement in the area. Many wondered how such a large cobra had entered a densely populated locality.
Local residents appreciated and praised the two snake rescuers for their efforts to safely rescue the highly venomous snake and protect both people and wildlife.
