Legal awareness programme on POCSO, NDPS Act and Child Marriage by NLU,Tripura at Bhavan’s Tripura Vidyamandir
National Law University (NLU), Tripura continued its state-wide legal awareness initiative under the flagship School-Connect Programme (SCP), a visionary initiative of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, with the theme “Let Us Work Together for the Children of Tripura.”
As part of this ongoing outreach, a special session on POCSO Act, NDPS Act, Child Marriage Prohibition Act, and Legal Career Counseling was conducted today at Bhavan’s Tripura Vidyamandir, Narsingarh, for students of Class XI and XII. The event commenced with an address by Mr. Rupam Roy, Vice-Principal of the school, followed by Debashish Chakraborty, IFS (Retd.), Chairman of the school, who warmly welcomed the NLU, Tripura team. The session was led by Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor, NLU, Tripura, who inspired the students with his motivational talk on the importance of fundamental rights and duties and enlightens them about the vast and promising career opportunities in the field of law. He emphasized the crucial role played by National Law Universities in shaping the legal and constitutional framework of India.
As part of the awareness segment, B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) 2nd-year students, Ms. Anushka Sachdeva, Ms. Reshmi Das, and Ms Rashi Biswas, delivered informative presentations on critical and sensitive issues impacting children in Tripura, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act. Their engaging and thought-provoking presentations effectively sensitized the students about legal safeguards and children’s rights. The interactive session concluded with a question–answer round, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Ms Merelin Darlong, Faculty Coordinator of the School-Connect Programme. The session was warmly received and deeply appreciated by the school authorities and students alike, marking yet another successful step in NLU Tripura’s commitment to promoting legal literacy and civic awareness among the youth of Tripura.
