In a major blow to drug trafficking networks operating in the Northeast, the Assam Rifles' Srikona Battalion, in a joint operation with Cachar Police, seized a huge consignment of narcotics valued at approximately ₹9.5 crore near Tollengram in Cachar on Tuesday.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, security personnel intercepted the consignment and recovered 30,000 Yaba tablets along with 535 grams of Heroin No. 4. Authorities estimated the combined street value of the seized narcotics at around ₹9.5 crore.

According to officials, the contraband had been cleverly concealed inside jars filled with red chillies in an attempt to evade detection. However, the alertness and vigilance of the troops led to the successful recovery of the narcotics.

Two women from Tollen Village in Tamenglong District were apprehended during the operation and taken into custody for further investigation.

The seizure marks yet another significant success in the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking in the region. Officials noted that the operation follows a series of successful anti-smuggling actions carried out over the past 48 hours. On the previous day, security forces had recovered Yaba tablets and heroin worth nearly ₹5 crore, while illegal foreign cigarettes valued at ₹2.8 crore were seized earlier on Tuesday.

Authorities said the back-to-back operations reflect the heightened vigilance being maintained along vulnerable trafficking routes in the Northeast.

Officials also highlighted the close coordination between the Assam Rifles, Cachar Police, and the Customs Department in combating drug smuggling and other illegal trade activities in the region.
