In a tragic road accident claimed the life of a mason in Kailashahar under Unakoti district on Monday morning after a collision between a motorcycle and a bicycle near the ITI Hostel in Durgapur.

Sources said that one Shahid Ali, a resident of Bangaon and a professional mason, had left home in the morning for work on his bicycle. While passing through the Durgapur area, he was involved in a collision with a motorcycle bearing registration number TR05-9054, which was being ridden by a youth identified as Pintu Namo.

Local sources alleged that Shahid Ali was attempting to turn onto another road from the right side when he lost control of his bicycle. At that moment, the oncoming motorcycle collided with the bicycle with considerable impact, leaving Shahid Ali critically injured on the road.

Personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and shifted the injured man to the Unakoti District Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, doctors referred him to GB Hospital in Agartala for advanced treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the hospital.

Amid the tragedy, the motorcycle rider reportedly set an example of humanity by not fleeing the scene. Instead, Pintu Namo assisted in taking the injured cyclist to the hospital.

The body of the deceased will be handed over to his family after a post-mortem examination on Tuesday.

The incident has left residents of Bangaon and Durgapur in deep mourning, with many expressing grief over how a moment of misjudgment resulted in the loss of a precious life. Police initiated an investigation over the circumstances surrounding the accident.
