In a bizarre incident, two youths posing as buyers on an online sale platform allegedly snatched cash and mobile phones from a seller and fled the spot in the Chandrapur area of Agartala city.

According to police, the incident occurred when the accused contacted the seller through the OLX platform to purchase a mobile phone. During the meeting, they forcibly snatched two mobile handsets and around Rs 7,000 in cash before escaping.

Following a complaint lodged at the East Agartala Police Station, police initiated an investigation. Based on scientific evidence and analysis of CCTV footage from the area, police identified and arrested the two accused on Monday.

Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station, Subrata Debnath, said the accused have been identified as Sahid Miah (23) of Srilankabasti and Sukhen Debnath (24) of Reshambagan, both under the same police station jurisdiction.

Police recovered the two stolen mobile phones along with the motorbike used in the crime. However, the stolen cash could not be recovered as the accused had already spent the money.

Both accused were produced before a local court on Monday, and police sought their remand for further interrogation.
