MP Kriti Singh meets IG, BSF, express concern over infiltration

Member of Parliament Kriti Singh Debbarma visited the BSF Frontier Headquarters situated at the Shalbagan area in Agartala on Saturday where Inspector General of BSF Patel Piyush Purushottam Das briefed her on border security measures and recent achievements in curbing illegal activities along the international border.

During the meeting, IG Das provided a comprehensive overview of border security operations. "BSF is fully prepared to tackle all security challenges along the Bangladesh border. Our jawans maintain constant vigilance," said Das.

Presenting the force's recent accomplishments Das reported: "We have successfully intercepted numerous infiltrations attempts this year, leading to the apprehension of 571 Bangladeshi nationals and 52 Rohingyas. Additionally, 52 touts involved in illegal activities have been arrested." He further added that contraband and narcotics worth Rs 87 crore have been seized in ongoing anti-smuggling operations.

Meanwhile, the IG also outlined various community welfare initiatives undertaken by BSF. "Our focus extends beyond border security. We have established skill development centres, organized medical camps in remote border villages, and distributed sports equipment to engage border area youth positively," Das explained.

MP Debbarma particularly commended the BSF's women empowerment initiatives including the BSF Wives Welfare Association (BWWA) programs and the deployment of women guards to inspire local women to join the force. "These initiatives not only strengthen border security but also contribute to the socio-economic development of border communities," the MP noted.

The meeting concluded with discussions on further strengthening border security measures while maintaining positive relations with the residents of border areas.
