National Law University, Tripura celebrates Intl Women’s Day
International Women’s Day was commemorated by the National Law University, Tripura with inauguration of Two days international conference on “Unfolding Gender Equity Through Inclusivity: Challenges and Way Forward.”
On March 8th, within 3 months of the stay of the university, Prof (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the university conceptualized an international conference to bring together international exchange of ideas.
The conference was organized in collaboration with Directorate of Social Welfare and Social Education, Government of Tripura and Tripura Commission for Women (TCW).
Justice S.D. Purkayastha, Judge, High Court of Tripura and Smt. Jharna Debbarma, Chairperson of TCW inaugurated the conference. Dignitaries also released university’s official newsletter Cronoca Gazzetta.
The conference witnesses a galaxy of professors, social thinkers and intellectuals who enriched the discourse on gender equity through inclusivity.
Prof. (Dr.) Ved Kumari, Vice-Chancellor of NLUO and an eminent gender right scholar delivered the Keynote address. Prof. (Dr.) Mizanur Rahman, Director, Bangladesh Institute of Law and International Affairs and Prof. Dr. Sarasu Esther Thomas, Professor of law NLSIU shared thought-provoking ideas, experiences on women empowerment. Prof. (Dr.) Nitya Rao, Professor of Gender Development, School of Global Development, University of East Anglia, UK, Prof. (Dr.) Chandrika Basu Majumder, Professor, Department of Political Science, Tripura University and Dr. Sunil Kanti Dhar, Gynaecologist and Ex-Head of the Department of Gynaecology, IGM Hospital, Agartala presented global and local experiences on status of women and girl child in India and Tripura. The two days international event witnessed around seventy-five participants across the country who presented their research.
Justice Biswajit Palit, Judge High Court of Tripura delivered the valedictory address. Dr. Debasree Debnath, Convenor of the Conference termed the conference as a foundation stone of promoting gender equity and justice-based objectives in Tripura’s legal education under the leadership of National Law University, Tripura. Dr. Dipikanta Chakraborty, organizing Secretary of the Conference also played a crucial role in executing this international conference. Prof. (Dr.) Nachiketa Mittal, Registrar, NLUT delivered the vote of thanks.
