NEP transforming education from a rigid to flexible, multidisciplinary learning, says Prof Patra
The New Education Policy (NEP) -2020 has brought in flexibility in higher education, particularly for the student, allowing them to choose their learning pathways and academic programs and NIT, Agartala are working in mission mode to implement the new NEP, said Prof Sarat Kumar Patra, Director of NIT Agartala on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference on the performance in implementation of the New Education Policy 2020 at the transit house of NIT in Agartala, he said the New Education Policy would help the students to advance their overall growth. The students can enrich their skill sets by pursuing multi-disciplinary programs in a multidimensional way. They can choose their career paths as per their talents and interests.
As a prelude to the 3rd anniversary of NEP 2020 Prof Patra said the NEP 2020 has started transforming the 35 year old rigid educational system into a flexible, holistic and multidisciplinary learning system. The new education policy has started facilitating a large number of students to reap benefits from credit transfer while studying a semester in another educational institute during his or her study in the parent institute. The students are able to benefit from components like student exchange programs and multiple entry-and-exits that have given scope to study in different institutes at a particular period of the course and also give scope to gather certificate, diploma and degree award as per the period and year of completion of his or her study.
Patra further said that hundreds of students of NIT Agartala are now pursuing exchange programs in various reputed academic institutes of the country. He said the NEP has provided more facilities to the students such as study in multiple programs and Academic Credit Banking(ACB), facilitating students to accumulate credits of performance gathered by studying in different institutes and programs.
The NEP 2020 has also given an opportunity to the educational institute to open up avenues as per necessities so as to enrich the skill capacities of the students undertaking multi-disciplinary and skill development programs. Institutes are getting more leverage to tie up with reputed academic institutions through signing MoUs to expand avenues before the students for their academic excellence. Director Patra informed that the Institute has taken up industry-institute engagement to update the curriculum for courses in emerging areas like Climate Effect, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, Data Sciences, Cyber Security, 3D Printing and Design etc.
