OC of Shilacherri police station suspended over negligence in duty
Taking a strong disciplinary action, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shilacherri police station in Gomati district, Lakshabir Jamatia has been suspended following allegations of negligence in the discharge of duty.
Along with the suspension, a departmental inquiry was also ordered by the DGP on March 20 against the police officer.
Sources said that in the last part of February, two engineers of Quippon Oil and Gas Infrastructure Limited, working under the state-owned company Oil India Limited, were kidnapped from their camp at Ailmara in Silacherri area under Gomati district over a tender.
According to the allegations, the OC failed to reach the spot on time during a critical incident and could not carry out the investigation promptly without prior approval from higher authorities.
Sources further revealed that after the incident, two engineers were rescued by police during their night long search, later; the authorities of ONGC filed a complaint against OC to the DGP for dereliction of duty for gross negligence and non-compliance of directions of Supreme Court in the case. Based on these developments, administrative action has been taken against the OC.
The suspension order stated that during the period of this order, the headquarter of Inspector Lakshabir Jamatia shall be the office of the SP (Gomati) and he shall not leave headquarters without obtaining the previous permission of the undersigned.
