Alleging an acute shortage of teachers and an unhygienic mid-day meal kitchen, parents staged a protest by locking the main gate of Kailashahar Chinibagan Secondary School before classes began on Wednesday.

According to the protesters, only two teachers are currently managing classes from Class I to Class V, severely disrupting the education of primary students. Despite repeatedly raising the issue with the school authorities and the Education Department, no effective action has been taken, they claimed.

Frustrated by the continued inaction, parents locked the school’s main entrance before it opened and launched a demonstration, demanding immediate intervention from the authorities.

Apart from the teacher shortage, the protesters also expressed serious concerns over the condition of the school’s mid-day meal kitchen. They alleged that the cooking area is extremely unhygienic and poorly maintained, posing a potential health risk to students. Parents said they fear the unsanitary conditions could lead to the spread of diseases among children.

Following the protest, Inspector of School, Radhan Tripura rushed to the school and held discussions with the agitating parents. After listening to their grievances, the official assured them that the issues would be addressed within a month and that arrangements would be made to appoint the required number of teachers.

Following the assurance, the parents withdrew their protest and unlocked the school gate, allowing normal academic activities to resume.

However, the parents warned that if the promises are not fulfilled within the stipulated one-month period, they will launch a more intense agitation in the coming days.
