Pradesh Congress president urges Human Rights Commission to visit communal clash affected areas

Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Ashish Kumar Saha on Friday urged chairman of Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) to intervene over some violations of human rights and to take fruitful measures to stop violation of human rights in the state.
Saha, through a letter to the chairman of THRC, called for an urgent visit by the commission to areas reportedly affected by communal clashes.
Highlighting several alarming incidents Saha alleged that grave violations of fundamental rights were taking place in parts of the state including Gandacherra, Kadamtala, and Kaitarbari. He pointed out that people in Gandacherra were being confined to relief camps under distressing conditions, which he said stripped them of basic freedoms.
"Instances of violent crimes including murders have become disturbingly frequent across Tripura. Women, in particular, are living under constant threat with a rising number of sexual assault cases being reported. The government's slogan of 'Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao' feels hollow in the face of these realities," Saha wrote in his letter.
He further alleged that incidents of custodial abuse had surfaced, underscoring the gravity of the situation. According to him, the inaction of the Human Rights Commission in addressing these issues has exacerbated the problem.
"The role of the commission is to safeguard the people from such atrocities, yet there has been no strong step to ensure justice or security for victims," Saha stated.
Demanding immediate redressal, he urged the THRC to take proactive measures to restore peace and uphold the rights of citizens. "I appeal to you to visit Gandacherra, Kadamtala, and Kaitarbari without delay and take necessary steps to prevent further violations," he added.
