At least seven people were injured in a head-on collision with a bike and two auto-rickshaws at Bagma Hospital Choumohani area under Udaipur subdivision of Gomati district on Thursday.

Police sources said that among the injured, six are elderly men and women. Reportedly, six senior citizens from Palatana and Shalgarah areas were travelling in an auto-rickshaw to attend a ‘Vaishnava Seva’ event when their vehicle collided with a speeding bike and another passenger auto on the National Highway near Bagma Hospital Choumohani.

Following the accident, local residents and firefighters rushed to the spot and shifted all the injured to Gomati District Hospital. Two of the victims, who were in critical condition, were later referred to GB Hospital in Agartala, while the remaining five were admitted to the surgical ward of Gomati District Hospital and are undergoing treatment.

Police have launched an investigation into the accident and seized the vehicles involved. Meanwhile, locals have alleged that road accidents are rising alarmingly in the Udaipur subdivision, with mishaps and fatalities occurring almost daily, and have questioned the role of the police in curbing such incidents.
