The much-awaited Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers Chandra Memorial Football League 2026, organised by the Tripura Football Association (TFA), will kick off at Umakanta Mini Stadium in Agartala on August 28, 2026.
The curtain-raiser for this year’s tournament was held at the Agartala Press Club on Sunday, August 23, where TFA officials and representatives of Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers briefed members of the media about the tournament and the initiatives planned alongside the competition.
The Chandra Memorial Football League is the A Division league tournament of the Tripura Football Association, featuring nine member clubs competing for the coveted championship trophy.
Established in 1968, the Tripura Football Association is affiliated with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and currently conducts A, B and C Division competitions along with a Women’s Division. The divisions comprise 10, 10, 18 and eight member clubs respectively.
The tournament is being organised as a tribute to Gour Chandra Saha, founder of Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers and former Vice President of the Tripura Football Association. A passionate supporter of football, Gour Chandra Saha played an active role in promoting the sport and strengthening the football fraternity in Tripura.
Speaking at the curtain-raiser, TFA Secretary Amit Choudhury said, “It gives us great pleasure to announce this year’s league.” He also acknowledged the contributions of TFA President Pranab Sarkar and Patron Ratan Saha, assuring that the association would strive to organise a tournament in which “football will be the winner.”
TFA Assistant Secretary Tapan Saha recalled Gour Chandra Saha’s contribution to the sport and said the late football enthusiast had served as a Vice President of the association.
“Gour Chandra Saha, the founding father of Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers, was a former Vice President of the Tripura Football Association and an active supporter of the game and all that it called for,” Tapan Saha said. He added that several initiatives have been introduced in his name to further enhance the tournament.
According to Rupak Saha, Director of Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers and son-in-law of Gour Chandra Saha, the league will also recognise outstanding individual and team performances
The tournament will felicitate the Man of the Match, Man of the Tournament, Best Emerging Player, Best Referee and Best Coach, with each awardee receiving a memento and cash prize. In addition, one team will be awarded the Fair Play Trophy, along with a cash prize, for demonstrating exemplary sporting spirit throughout the competition.
With the tournament set to begin on August 28, the organisers have invited football lovers to Umakanta Mini Stadium to witness the league and support the participating teams.
The Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers Chandra Memorial Football League 2026 will bring the footballing community together in memory of Gour Chandra Saha while celebrating talent, sportsmanship and the spirit of the game in Tripura.
