Six including JNV employees nabbed for lynching case

Based on the complaints of the victim’s family, police arrested six persons so far in connection with lynching of a man at a construction site for his alleged involvement in a theft case Jahawar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) at Belonia of South Tripura district.
SP(South Tripura) Ashok Sinha said that three of the arrested persons are JNV employees and others are construction labourers from outside of the state. All were booked for murdering in a group under sections 103 (1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 and have been forwarded to a local court with police remand appeals.
Allegedly, the victim Babul Miah, a resident of Muzaffar Colony of Belonia, next to JNV was detained when he climbed the school’s boundary wall to steal some valuable construction materials. After being caught, the accused person was beaten severely and tied him up in a tree for the whole night.
On Sunday morning, getting a call from the villagers, police from Belonia reached the spot and rescued him in an unconscious state. When he was taken to Belonia district hospital, doctors declared him dead. The news spread like wildfire and family members and relatives along with the neighbours, stormed the police station seeking immediate action against all accused persons.
“Primafacie of the incident proved that Babul was lynched to death in the school campus, but police did not register the case under the appropriate section of lynching instead, they attempted to save the criminals who killed Babul on false charges,” alleged younger brother of the deceased man, adding that the accused persons have tied him and tortured him for the whole night to ensure his death.
