Six-year-old girl dies after snake bite; locals allege negligence in primary treatment
In a heart-rending incident, a six-year-old girl from Ramchandraghat area under Khowai district died after being bitten by a poisonous snake on Thursday afternoon.
According to sources, the victim, identified as Jonaki Das (6), daughter of Sentu Das, was on her way to her private tutor’s house around 4 PM when she was attacked by the snake near a jungle path in her village.
After noticing the incident, some local residents rushed to inform her parents and immediately shifted the child to Chebri Primary Health Centre. However, locals alleged that the on-duty doctor, after administering an anti-venom injection, referred her to Khowai District Hospital without providing adequate primary treatment.
By the time her parents reached the emergency ward of the district hospital with the unconscious child, the attending doctors declared her brought dead.
Local residents claimed that the Class-I student could have been saved if she had received proper and timely medical attention at the primary health centre.
