Smuggler attacks on BSF jawan in Sonamura border, two injured
After a clash with smugglers at bordering Kalsimura area under West Tripura district on Friday, one BSF jawan sustained critical injuries and the jawan has also fired one round in blank to disperse smugglers.
Sources said that on Friday morning, in the bordering areas of Border Outpost (BOP) Kalsimura under West Tripura district, a scuffle took place between BSF and miscreants who were trying to smuggle contraband. When BSF jawan from the 150th Battalion, Harish Chandra Pande tried to stop them, the miscreants assaulted him with ‘dah’, bamboo and other lethal weapons and tried to snatch his personal weapon.
BSF sources said that in order to save himself, and the weapon, BSF Head constable fired one round from his service rifle after which the miscreants fled away from the spot. The BSF personnel has been injured on his head and at present admitted at Boxanagar CHC for treatment. Eight stitches were given to the injured jawan and doctors had also prescribed a CT scan.
BSF sources added that a specific FIR has been lodged against the miscreants.
Sources said that one of the prime suspects, Riyad Hossain, remains at large. Despite a FIR being lodged with Boxanagar police, till evening, police were unable to detain any miscreant involved with the attack on on-duty BSF jawan.
While, local villagers alleged that injured BSF had first attacked villagers without any provocation and had also attacked a woman, who had also suffered injuries. The villagers said that they will also lodge an FIR against accused BSF jawan Harish Chandra Pande.
