Special Branch Operation: Two Bihar youths arrested with firearm and banned cough syrup at Agartala Railway station
In a major crackdown on illegal trafficking, the Special Branch of Tripura Police, in coordination with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), arrested two youths from Bihar with a sophisticated pistol and a large quantity of banned cough syrup at Agartala Railway Station on Sunday.
Providing details, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Rati Ranjan Debnath said that acting on a tip-off, Special Branch personnel, along with the RPF, conducted a raid on the Rani Kamalabati Express and apprehended the two suspects. A pistol with two live rounds and 100 bottles of Phensedyl were recovered from their possession.
“The exact nature of the pistol—whether country-made or factory-made—will be confirmed after forensic examination. The seized weapon will be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL),” DIG Debnath said
The arrested persons have been identified as Kartik Yadav and Amud. They will be produced before a local court with a plea for police remand.
According to police sources, the suspects had been under surveillance since Dharmanagar Railway Station. Intelligence and security teams tracked their movement and cordoned them near Jogendranagar Railway Station before detaining them upon the train’s arrival at Agartala.
A thorough search of their belongings led to the recovery of the firearm and the banned cough syrup. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the seized items and to identify the intended recipients of the consignment.
DIG Debnath added that cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act will be registered against the accused.
