Spl NDPS court sentenced 12-years imprisonment two drug smugglers

A special NDPS court of North Tripura district sentenced two drug smugglers to12-years of rigorous imprisonment on Wednesday.
Giving details government advocate, Dhrubajyoti Goswami said that a special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act court of Dharmanagar after long hearing, the court under sections 8(C), 20(C) and 29 of NDPS Act sentenced 12-years of imprisonment to drug peddlers Jantu Das (32) abd Bikram Das (35) and fine of Rs. 1 lakh each.
He said that on September 18, 2021, the then SDPO(Dharmanagar) Kanta Jangir arrested both accused drug peddlers and recovered 30 kilograms of dry Cannabis (Ganja) under their possessions.
After the arrest of these drug peddlers, the Dharmanagar police station filed the charge-sheet before the special court on March 10, 2022 and during hearing of the case, the court recorded the statements of 9 witnesses and June 30th, 2025 last pronounced both accused as guilty of drug smuggling.
The special court on Wednesday sentenced them, which is a big instance for drug smuggling in Tripura, said government advocate.
