Three Bangladeshi arrested from a bordering village in Dharmanagar

Infiltration from the unrest that hit Bangladesh into Tripura continued and again on Wednesday three Bangladeshi were arrested by North Tripura district police from bordering West Chandrapur village during their exfiltration bid.

Infiltration into the Northeastern states especially in Tripura and Assam has continued for Bangladesh and in the last few months dozens of Bangladesh nationals along with Rohingyas were arrested by security forces from different borders of the state.

After a brief half, especially after operation ‘Sindoor’, the infiltration was almost stopped due tight security in the entire stretch of border, but during the past few months Bangladesh nationals were arrested from different parts of the state.

Police sources said that based on secret information of suspected movements of three persons in West Chandrapur area under Dharmanagar police station of North Tripura district, a police team rushed to the spot.

When they chased these persons, they tried to escape from the spot towards a deep jungle near Indo-Bangla border. But, police detained them and during preliminary interrogation, they revealed that they are citizens of Bangladesh and arrived at Dharmanagar through a train from Bangalore.

Detained Bangladeshis have been identified as Mahi Uddin (27), Nur Alam (47), and Raihan Mia (20). Among them, Mahi Uddin hails from Brahmanbaria district, while Nur Alam and Raihan Mia are residents of Narsingdi district, Bangladesh.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dharmanagar police station, Mina Debbarma said that during preliminary interrogation, the detainees admitted to illegally entering India through the Tripura border about six months ago with the help of a human trafficker. Later, they went to Bangalore for work, where they obtained fake Aadhaar cards in exchange for money and stayed there.

On Wednesday, while attempting to return to Bangladesh through the Tripura–Bangladesh border with the help of the same broker, they were apprehended by the police.

Police said that investigation is underway to identify those who helped them enter India and added that police have registered a specific case under sections of the Passports Act, the Foreigners Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and all arrested foreigners will  be produced before a local court on Thursday   for further legal proceedings. Police also said that all those involved in these cases will be arrested and police will launch another operation to arrest human traffickers involved with infiltration of Bangladeshi into Tripura’s territory.
