Amid escalating tensions between India and Bangladesh, a significant security-related incident has come to light in Tripura’s Gomati district. Police have arrested three Bangladeshi nationals from the Dwajanagar area under R.K. Pur police station in Udaipur subdivision for illegal entry and stay without valid documents.

The arrested persons have been identified as Md Ashraful Haq, Md Kalu, and Md Eashraful, all residents of Bangladesh’s Rajshahi district. Police sources said the trio had been working as carpenters in the area for the past few months without any legal documentation.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of suspected foreign nationals, a police team conducted a raid at Dwajanagar on Wednesday and detained four individuals. During interrogation, it was confirmed that three were Bangladeshi citizens, while the fourth person was identified as a resident of Killa village in Udaipur subdivision.

Confirming the development, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Debanjali Roy said that during preliminary questioning, the involvement of an Indian broker came to light. Following this revelation, police carried out a follow-up raid and arrested the Indian agent from the Killa area. Police suspect that the broker was actively facilitating illegal infiltration across the international border.

A specific case has been registered against the arrested individuals under the Passport Act. Police have also launched a detailed investigation to ascertain whether the accused were involved in any anti-India or anti-national activities, including suspicious communications on social media platforms. Mobile phones, social media accounts, and other digital data of the accused are being thoroughly examined.

It may be recalled that the arrests come at a time when border surveillance has been significantly intensified across Tripura. The incident has triggered fresh concerns over security and national interest among both the public and administrative authorities.

Security experts believe the arrests are particularly significant given the current sensitive state of India–Bangladesh relations. Incidents of illegal infiltration in the border state of Tripura are increasingly becoming a matter of concern. The administration has assured that no leniency will be shown in matters related to national security, and strict action will be taken against anyone found involved during the course of the investigation.
