Three Bangladeshi with a woman arrested from bordering Sepahijala district
Amidst continuous joint patrolling by BSF and Tripura police in stretches of Indo-Bangla border due to unrest and election process in Bangladesh, three more citizens of the neighbouring country were arrested from a bordering village under Sepahijala district, who were moving in that area suspiciously on Sunday midnight.
Giving details, officer-in-charge (OC) Jatrapur police station , Smriti Kanta Bardhan said that police station has received information that three suspected persons including two male and a female were moving in the bordering Nidaya area and immediately police personnel rushed to the spot.
With the help of some local villagers, police detained them and brought them into the police station, said OC and added that during interrogation they revealed that they are from Bangladesh and are illegally staying in many Indian cities including Bangalore and Chennai for the past four years.
He said that on Sunday they arrived in the district after landing in Agartala Railway station from Kolkata to return back to their native country and when their bid to exfiltrate into Bangladesh with help of local human traffickers (touts), police and villagers detained them, said Bardhan.
He added that arrested Bangladeshi nationals were identified as Aazijul Sheikh, Aatiyul Sheikh and Swapna Sheikh and are from Narail district of Bangladesh. All arrested Bangladesh nationals were produced before a local court with police remand appeals under the Foreigner Act-1946 & U/S- 03 of IPP Act ( Entry into India Amendment-2000) for further interrogation.
The infiltration into the Northeastern states especially in Tripura and Assam has continued for Bangladesh and in the last few months hundreds of Bangladesh nationals along with Rohingyas were arrested by security forces from different borders of the state.
After a brief half, especially after operation ‘Sindoor’, the infiltration was almost stopped due to tight security in the entire stretch of border, but during the past few months dozens of Bangladeshi along with touts were arrested from different parts of the state.
