Tipra-Motha blockade at NH, caused immense suffering for daily commuters

The 12-hours long road blockade at Belfung portion of National Highway-208 by Tipra-Motha supporters created huge resentment and suffering after hundreds of passengers and goods carrying vehicles were stranded for the entire day.
Sources said that protesting forceful removal of counting agents of Tipra-Motha from a Gram Panchayat vote counting centre in Khowai district on Monday, a group of Motha supporters led by their party MLA Ranjit Debbarma started road blocking programme from Tuesday morning at 7 AM at Belfung portion of national highway. As a result, hundreds of daily commuters, especially working people and employees moving in the routes of Agartala, Khowai, Kamalpur and Kailashahar, are stranded on the road.
In the both side blockade, hundreds of goods carrying vehicles were also stranded for the entire day. In the afternoon, SDM(Khowai) rushed to the spot and tried to withdraw the blockade, but agitators were not ready for withdrawal and demanded for the arrival of DM and SP of the district.
Later, in the evening at about 7 PM, after intervention of the state government, agitators withdrew their road blockade agitation and normal traffic resumed.
