Tripura celebrates Holi with enthusiasm amid tight security
Holi, the festival of colours, was celebrated across Tripura with great enthusiasm and fervour on Wednesday, alongside the rest of the country, amid heightened security arrangements.
The celebrations remained largely peaceful, with no major incidents of violence reported. Official sources confirmed that a large number of police personnel were deployed in the capital city as well as in other parts of the state to ensure smooth and safe festivities.
Children and youngsters were at the forefront of the celebrations, taking to the streets and neighbourhoods to revel in colours. Friends exchanged greetings and smeared each other with abir and Gulal, while families visited relatives and shared sweets as part of the traditional observances. Children enjoyed spraying coloured water with water guns and tossing water-filled balloons from rooftops.
The festivities began early in the morning in cities, towns and villages across the state. In Agartala, police imposed prohibitory orders as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incidents. Security was tightened across the city, with additional forces deployed to maintain law and order.
“There are no reports of any untoward incident till now. The situation is absolutely peaceful,” police officials said.
However, a minor clash was reported in Kailashahar, where a few people were injured following a scuffle between rival groups of the ruling party. Police described the incident as isolated and said the overall situation remained under control.
It may be recalled that the West district administration had imposed Section 144 as a preventive measure. Traffic police also maintained strict surveillance from early morning to regulate vehicular movement and ensure public safety.
Overall, Holi celebrations in Tripura concluded on a peaceful note under vigilant security arrangements.
