Tripura gets its first electric locomotive-powered goods train, passenger train services soon

Tripura gets its first electric locomotive-powered goods train, which has reached Jirania railway station in West Tripura district at 1.12 AM on Thursday.
Official sources of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), said that after the successful completion of electric loco trials in the Badarpur-Agartala section, the first goods train movement with electric locomotive took place in the section on February 5, 2025, when a loaded 21 wagon goods train departed from Badarpur at 7.30 PM of Wednesday and successfully reached Jirania station in the midnight.
The train reached Jirania railway station in West Tripura district at 1.12 am on Thursday, which is 17 km away from Agartala railway station.
NFR sources said that passenger train movement with electric loco will also start soon in Tripura once some more trials with goods trains are completed .
About Rs 46-crore railway electrification project was launched in 2022 to connect the state with the national railway grid.
NFR officials had earlier said that the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) would supply power to railway electric transmission lines by February.
