A delegation of surrendered militants met Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma at the Civil Secretariat in Agartala on Tuesday to discuss their long-pending demands, with the minister assuring that the state government is taking the issues seriously and working towards a solution.
The delegation, led by Kakla Joy Tripura, comprised surrendered members of the banned militant outfits NLFT and ATTF. The meeting was attended by senior police officials, the department’s secretary and other officials.
The development followed a road blockade staged by a group of surrendered militants on August 28 at Baramura hill ranges, where they had raised several demands. Minister Bikash Debbarma had visited the spot and held discussions with the protesters, assuring them of a positive approach from the government.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the delegation discussed various issues and demands of the surrendered members in detail. After the meeting, Kakla Joy Tripura said the minister listened to their concerns positively and assured steps for early resolution of their problems.
“We are hopeful that necessary steps will be taken by the government to address our demands. The minister heard our issues positively and discussions were held on how the problems can be resolved,” Kakla Joy Tripura said.
Meanwhile, Minister Bikash Debbarma said the government is giving importance to the demands of surrendered militants. He stated that several issues are already under the process of resolution under the supervision of the Central Government.
“The government is looking at their demands with a positive approach. Some issues are already in the process of being resolved under the guidance of the Central Government. The state government is also working towards fulfilling the remaining demands,” the minister said.
The meeting has opened a new avenue for resolving the issues of surrendered militants through dialogue with the state government. The concerned groups are now awaiting further action from the government.
