The Tripura government has issued a memorandum introducing several austerity measures aimed at reducing government expenditure and conserving fuel. The order was issued by the General Administration (Administrative Reforms) Department on Wednesday (May 13).

According to the memorandum, the decision was taken following the recent appeal by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging citizens and institutions to conserve fuel and adopt work-from-home practices wherever feasible.

As part of the new measures, Heads of Departments (HoDs) have been directed to ensure that only 50 percent of Group C and D employees attend office daily, while the remaining 50 percent will work from home.

The memorandum further instructed all HoDs to prepare weekly duty rosters for Group C and D staff and arrange office attendance on alternate weeks. During the first phase of implementation, departments have been advised to prioritize employees residing near their workplaces for office duty.

Employees working from home will be required to remain available through telephone and electronic communication at all times and must report to office immediately if called for any emergency work.

The order also stated that similar instructions may be issued to Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), local bodies, autonomous and statutory organizations, as well as subordinate offices under the State Government.

However, the memorandum clarified that the instructions will not apply to offices and personnel engaged in essential and emergency services.

The order has come into immediate effect and will remain operational until further instructions are issued by the government.

The memorandum was signed by A.K. Bhattacharya, Special Secretary to the government of Tripura.
