With the aim of making women in the state more self-reliant and economically empowered, the Government of Tripura has officially launched the “Tripura Women Entrepreneurship Policy 2025–2030.” The policy was formally announced at a state-level programme held at the Pragya Bhavan in Agartala on Thursday.

The event was inaugurated by the Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma. Among those present were Industries and Commerce Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, departmental officials including Dipak Kumar, Chairman of the Tripura Tea Development Corporation (TTDC) Samir Ranjan Ghosh, SLBC Convener Kunal Kanti, representatives of various banks, members of Self-Help Groups, and women entrepreneurs.

The primary objective of the policy is to create a supportive and growth-oriented ecosystem for women entrepreneurs in the state. Special emphasis will be given to women associated with micro and cottage industries by connecting them with modern technology, market linkages, and institutional support to help them build sustainable businesses.

In order to encourage women entrepreneurs, the government has also announced several attractive financial incentives. These include capital investment subsidies ranging from 30 percent to 40 percent under the TIPIS scheme, up to 35 percent project cost subsidy under the “Swabalamban” project, and special concessions on interest rates for working capital loans.

Additionally, entrepreneurs will receive reimbursement of up to Rs 1 lakh for business license and registration fees, along with opportunities to participate in trade fairs and exhibitions. Support will also be provided through digital literacy training, mentoring, and assistance in marketing products via e-commerce platforms.

Speaking at the programme, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma said that the Tripura Women Entrepreneurship Policy 2025–2030, along with the state’s MSME policy, will play a crucial role in making women economically self-reliant and enabling them to become successful entrepreneurs. The policy will create new opportunities for women in both rural and urban areas to expand businesses and strengthen their financial capabilities.

She added that the initiative is aligned with the broader goals of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and “Atmanirbhar Tripura.” Women in the state have already demonstrated their capabilities in sectors such as agriculture, handicrafts, and small businesses, and this policy will further accelerate their entrepreneurial growth.

The minister also mentioned that the government has ensured 33 percent reservation in various schemes to promote women’s participation. Compared to 2018, the number of Self-Help Groups in the state has increased significantly, with more than five lakh women now associated with SHGs. At the same time, the number of successful women entrepreneurs has also risen, with over 1.08 lakh “Lakhpati Didis” emerging in the state.

She expressed hope that under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, the new policy will take women’s empowerment in Tripura to the next level. During the event, the Industries and Commerce Department also felicitated and awarded several entrepreneurs for their achievements.
