Speculation is mounting that the State Election Commission may announce the election schedule for the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and 20 other Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Tripura as early as Friday. The buzz gained momentum on Thursday following a training programme for Returning Officers held at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala, indicating that the administration is in the final stages of poll preparedness.

Speaking to reporters, State Election Commissioner (SEC) P K Chakraborty said that preparations for conducting the elections have reached their final phase and that the poll schedule could be announced on any day. His remarks have fuelled speculation in political and administrative circles that the formal notification may be issued on Friday.

The State Election Commission (SEC) has already initiated extensive preparations for the elections to the state's 21 Urban Local Bodies, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation. Key arrangements such as the preparation of electoral rolls, identification of polling stations, testing of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), and training of election officials have been progressing steadily.

Political parties have also intensified their organizational activities ahead of the elections. The ruling BJP has indicated that it is in the final stages of selecting its candidates, while media reports suggest that opposition parties have begun discussions on seat-sharing arrangements.

All eyes are now on the State Election Commission's next move. Whether the much-awaited election schedule will be announced on Friday or the announcement will be delayed further is expected to become clear with the Commission's official decision.
