Tripura urges Civil Aviation Ministry to establish BCAS’ regional office in Agartala

The Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has urged the Union Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu to establish a new regional office of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) in Agartala.
In a letter to Naidu, Chowdhury highlighted that MBB Airport in Agartala is the second busiest in the Northeast, following Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.
“It is reliably learned that 17 new BCAS offices will be set up nationwide soon. MBB Airport in Agartala, Tripura, ranks as the second busiest airport in the Northeast, after Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, with an annual traffic of about 1.3 million passengers,” Chowdhury said in his letter to the Union minister on Saturday.
Chowdhury also mentioned, “The new terminal building of MBB Airport, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2022, meets modern international standards. Infrastructure for international flights between Agartala and Chittagong is ready and awaiting the ministry’s approval for inauguration.”
Chowdhury emphasized that all airlines, business establishments, contractors, and fuel pumps operating within the airport premises require clearance from BCAS, yet there is no official documentation for it locally.
“Considering all these factors, I request the sanctioning of a new regional BCAS office in Agartala at the earliest,” appealed Chowdhury.
