Two drug peddlers get 12-years of imprisonment under NDPS Act

In a landmark judgement, a special court of Sepahijala district on Thursday sentenced two drug peddlers 12-years of rigorous imprisonment in a case registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985.
Giving details of the case, a government advocate of Bishalgarh court said that based on secret information, a team of police chase a truck on June 4th, 2023, which was coming from Uttar Pradesh with animal fodder for Devipur cattle farm under Madhupur police station of Sepahijala district.
Later, a police team managed to detain the suspected truck and brought it inside the police station and during search in the truck, police recovered 300 bags of animal fodder and also recovered 300 more packets of contraband Excof cough syrup, said government advocate.
He said that the police team recovered a total of 47, 984 contraband cough syrup, worth of lakh and arrested truck driver Pintu Shukla of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh and his co-driver, Rajendra Singh, was also hails from Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
The Investigating Officer (IO), police Sub-Inspector (SI) Partha Pratim Reang of Madhupur police filed the charge-sheet before the special court under the NDPS Act case.
After one year of hearing, the special judge Debasish Kar on Thursday found both driver and co-driver guilty for transportation of contraband items and pronounced his judgement .
As per the judgement, both accused will now suffer 12-years of rigorous imprisonment under NDPS Act with penalty of Rs. 1 lakh each and if they fail to pay penalty, then have to suffer one more year of imprisonment.
