Veteran Journalist, news editor of Dainik Sambad,  Pradip Dutta Bhowmik passes away

Veteran journalist and news editor of Tripura’s leading Bengali daily Dainik Sambad, Pradip Dutta Bhowmik passed away on Sunday afternoon while undergoing treatment at AIIMS in New Delhi.

He was under medical care for the past several days at the ICU of the hospital after a surgery but breathed his last around 3:45 PM on Sunday, despite all efforts by doctors. Dutta Bhowmik was in treatment at the AIIMS for the past three months.

He was 72 and his untimely demise has cast a shadow of grief across the media fraternity in Tripura. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Assembly of Journalists (AoJ), Agartala Press Club, and the Tripura Working Journalists’ Association and other media organizations have expressed deep condolences over his passing and conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.

Assembly of Journalists (AoJ) in a condolence message said that “Plunging the state’s media fraternity into deep sorrow, senior journalist and News Editor of the Dainik Sambad, Pradip Dutta Bhowmik, passed away at 3:45 PM on Sunday. He was 72 years old at the time of his demise. For the past few days, he had been undergoing treatment at AIIMS, Delhi.

The State Government—particularly Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha—maintained close communication with the AIIMS authorities in Delhi regarding the veteran journalist’s treatment and medical procedures. However, on Sunday afternoon, all efforts fell short, veteran journalist departed unexpectedly, leaving the journalistic community in shock and grief.

The Assembly of Journalists stands in deep mourning alongside his bereaved family, loved ones, and colleagues from across all tiers of the media. With a heavy heart, we pay our respects and homage to the departed soul and pray for his eternal peace.”

While, the mortal remains of Dutta Bhowmik are expected to be brought back to Agartala by Monday afternoon 3 PM from New Delhi for the last rites.

Pradip Dutta Bhowmik, survived by wife, one son and one daughter along with numerous relatives, friends  was widely respected in journalistic circles for his sharp editorial insight, dedication to ethical journalism, and decades-long contribution to the media landscape of Tripura.
