Canada: Manitoba general elections to be held Oct 3, registration agents to visit homes Aug 17-24
Manitoba/IBNS: Registration agents for Manitoba polls will be visiting homes throughout the province from Aug 17 to 24, to register eligible Manitobans to vote in the general election, expected on Oct 3, a news release has said.
The accuracy and completeness of the Manitoba voter registry, a permanent voters list, would be improved by targeted registration.
Newly constructed neighbourhoods as well as areas of high mobility would be visited by registration agents.
Identification would be worn by voter registration agents.
For the improvement of the accuracy of the voters list, registration agents would request when they come to your door, the name, address, and phone number as well as eligible voters’ date of birth and gender of all eligible voters in the household.
Registration to vote before the election makes voting faster, nevertheless voters who are not registered before the end of the revision period on Sept. 14 can still register at the poll when they go to vote.
Voters also have the option to register to vote or update their information online at electionsmb.ca/register.
Eligibility to vote by the Manitoba residents include they should be Canadian citizens; are at least 18 years of age on or before election day; and have lived in Manitoba for at least six months before election day.
Landlords and building caretakers are being reminded that the law mandates registration agents to access apartment buildings and condominiums.
