Trump, who met Xi in South Korea on the sidelines of the APEC Summit, ordered the US Department of War to test the nuclear weapons though he claimed he "hated" to do it.

The President wrote on Truth Social, "The United States has more Nuclear Weapons than any other country. This was accomplished, including a complete update and renovation of existing weapons, during my First Term in office. Because of the tremendous destructive power, I HATED to do it, but had no choice! Russia is second, and China is a distant third, but will be even within 5 years.

"Because of other countries testing programs, I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis. That process will begin immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP."

This comes on a day Russian President Vladimir Putin announced he successfully tested a Poseidon nuclear-powered super torpedo amid the US-Russia faceoff.

Earlier, Putin had tested a new Burevestnik cruise missile on October 21 and nuclear launch drills on 22nd of the same month.

The US had last tested nuclear weapons in 1992 at Nevada Test Site, about 100 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

The test took place just before then President George H. W. Bush signed a moratorium on nuclear testing in October 1992.

The U.S. signed but never ratified the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) in 1996.

Other countries like Russia, China, and India had also stopped full-scale testing, though North Korea remains an exception in all these years.
