Germany: Group of men with Afghanistani flags wrapped around them attacks Pakistani consulate in Frankfurt
A group of people threw stones and pulled down the Pakistani flag when they attacked the country's consulate in Germany's Frankfurt city recently.
Several videos of the incident went viral on social media where the attackers, who had the Afghanistani flag wrapped around their shoulders, were seen vandalising the consulate premises and even taking down the Pakistani flag.
Pakistani media reports said two people have been detained so far in connection with the incident.
According to media reports, the attackers even tried to burn the Pakistani flag.
The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the German government to take immediate measures to arrest and prosecute those involved in the attack.
"We are conveying our strong protest to the German Government," the Ministry said.
Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar posted on X: "Yesterday a gang of extremists breached the premises of Pakistan’s consulate in Frankfurt, Germany endangering the lives of its consular staff. Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with the German Government. We have urged the German government to fulfill its responsibilities under the Vienna Conventions and ensure the security of the diplomatic missions and staff of Pakistan in Germany. We have also pressed them for taking immediate measures to arrest and prosecute those involved in yesterday's incident and hold to account those responsible for the lapses in the security."
