In a big victory for Donald Trump, his 'One Big Beautiful Bill' clears US Congress
In a major political victory for US President Donald Trump, the Congress narrowly passed his flagship tax and spending bill on Thursday, which is considered a boost to fund his policies including his anti-immigration drive.
A small group of opponents in the Republican party finally fell into line after Speaker Mike Johnson worked through the night to bring the dissenters on the same page.
The bill cleared with a final vote of 218-214, ensuring that it can be on Trump's desk to be signed into law on July 4th, US Independence Day.
The bill, formally titled the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” represents the cornerstone of Trump’s legislative agenda and the GOP’s unified control in Washington.
"One of the most consequential Bills ever. The USA is the 'HOTTEST' Country in the World, by far!!!" Trump said on social media as he sensed victory.
The legislative win is the latest in a series of successes for Trump, including a Supreme Court ruling last week that restricted some judges from blocking his policies, and US air strikes that led to a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
