Iran targets US-run air bases in Qatar, Iraq; explosion sighted over Doha

Retaliating against the US attack on three of its key nuclear sites, Iran has attacked a US-run airbase in Qatar and Iraq after Washington DC joined the Israel camp during its conflict with Tehran, Iranian state TV reported.

The mission, called the "Annunciation of Victory," is focused on Al Udeid Air Base, according to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

"With the aggression of the American enemy, it became clear to everyone that the evil of the Zionists was an extension of the American design," the Iranian armed forces said in a statement.

"Accordingly, we remind you that in this national defense, the US mobile military bases and targets in the region are not a point of strength, but rather a major weakness and a blind spot for this war-mongering regime."

"Iran will not leave any attack on its territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national security unanswered under any circumstances," the IRGC statement said.

Following the attack, US President Donald Trump is currently meeting the National Security Council at the situation room of White House and is likely to decide on its next course of action.

No casualties were reported in the airbase, US officials told reporters.

The attack on the Al-Udeid Air Base was "strongly condemned" by the Qatari government.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs official spokesperson Majed al-Ansari, in a post on X, said: "We consider this a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the State of Qatar, its airspace, international law, and the United Nations charter."

He said Qatar's air defence systems "successfully thwarted the attack and intercepted the Iranian missiles," and the base had been evacuated earlier.

"All necessary steps were taken to ensure the safety of personnel at the base, including Qatari Armed Forces members, friendly forces, and others. We confirm that no injuries or human casualties resulted from the attack," he added.

The spokesperson said Qatar reserves the right to respond "in a manner equivalent with the nature and scale of this brazen aggression".

Qatar has closed its airspace following the attack.

Meanwhile, the US and UK have asked its citizens to take safe shelters and stay protected.

The attack comes after the US early on Saturday bombed Iran's three nuclear sites. The sites are Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.

B-2 bombers took off from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri in the early morning hours of Saturday (US time) to carry out the strikes.

The attack was carried out as the US joined the conflict started a week ago when Israel launched airstrikes against Iranian nuclear and military sites, primarily targeting uranium enrichment facilities to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
