Israel Defense Forces says senior Hezbollah official Hassan Ali Mahmoud Bdeir eliminated
Israel on Tuesday confirmed the killing of senior Hezbollah leader Hassan Ali Mahmoud Bdeir in the Dahieh area of Lebanon.
The region is known as a strong Hezbollah stronghold.
Israel Defense Forces said the eliminated 'terrorist' was attached with Hezbollah's Unit 3900 and the Iranian Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
"Bdeir recently operated in cooperation with the Hamas terrorist organization, assisting them in planning and advancing a significant and imminent terror attack against Israeli civilians," IDF said in a statement.
Imminent Strike On Israel
IDF said Bdeir was eliminated since his possible plan to strike Israel was imminent.
"Given the immediacy of the threat, Bdeir was struck immediately by IAF forces, with the direction of the ISA and the Mossad," it said.
IDF said Hezbollah’s terrorist activity constitutes a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon and poses a threat to Israel and its civilians.
According to Lebanon’s health ministry, four people were killed and seven wounded in the attack on Beirut’s southern Dahiyeh suburb, reported The Times of Israel on the attack.
Hezbollah lawmaker Ibrahim Musawi earlier appealed the Lebanese state to act against the strike.
While standing near the strike site, Musawi told journalists, as quoted by WION, that Lebanese authorities must "act with the highest level of effectiveness, make the international community bear its responsibility, and take the highest level of measures to guarantee the safety of the Lebanese".
Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun Condemns
Meanwhile, Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun condemned the attack and urged international allies to support the country's right to full territorial sovereignty.
"Israel's persistence in its aggression requires more effort from us in addressing Lebanon's friends around the world and rallying them in support of our right to full sovereignty over our land," Aoun said in a statement released by the presidency as quoted by WION.
