USA: Small private plane crashes in Philadelphia, six people, including child, feared dead

At least six people, including a child, are feared dead after a small private plane crashed in the US city of Philadelphia on Friday.


Several people were reportedly injured after the plane crashed into several buildings in the city, setting homes and vehicles on fire.

The Learjet 55 with six people on board crashed around 6:30 p.m. ET after departing from Northeast Philadelphia Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration told CNN.

The plane was on its way to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri when the mishap occurred.

The plane reached 1,650 feet shortly after takeoff before plunging, according to data from ADS-B Exchange, the American news channel reported.

The final data reportedly showed the flight's final speed of descent was 11,000 feet per minute.

According to Jet Rescue, the air ambulance company which was operating the flight, the plane was carrying a pediatric patient in it.

“At this time, we cannot confirm any survivors,” the company was quoted as saying by CNN.

Confirming the mishap, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker posted on X: "An aircraft crashed tonight in the vicinity of the Roosevelt Mall on Cottman Avenue. It occurred shortly after 6 p.m. this evening."

Donald Trump expresses sadness

US President Donald Trump reacted to the plane mishap and was quoted as saying by BBC: "So sad to see the plane go down in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. More innocent souls lost."

Emergency crew rushed to the spot after the crash which occurred in a busy area in the city.

According to reports, the streets were littered with debris and pieces of the aircraft.

Several clips of the crash have now gone viral on the internet.

Washington aviation tragedy

The crash occurred just days after an American Airlines jet and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter collided mid-air in Washington DC, leaving 67 people dead, marking one of the deadliest aviation tragedies in the history of the USA.
